Jake’s grandfather, Blanche Peavy, taught him about baseball, music, and life: the meaning of focus and the importance of getting up when life knocks you down. These are the same values that Jake brings to his Foundation.
“To have somebody who groomed me to stay focused on the task at hand has helped me succeed at baseball and in life… when I was young and through different trials in my life, that’s what we did: moved forward.” —Jake Peavy
The critical period in Jake’s own life began at the age of fourteen, when Blanche Peavy died. Four years later —thanks to hard work, the support of family, and the lessons his grandfather taught him—he was drafted into the San Diego Padres.
This is also a critical period for many young people, when they are most in need of mentoring and confidence- building activities.
This is the time when Focusing Forward can make the greatest impact.
