The Mobile Big Band Society, a 501(c)(3) organization, was formed to continue the performance and preservation of the music of the Big Band era. Regional band members play for the sheer joy of getting together to make the music, for themselves, for their “mature” fans, who have heard and loved it all their lives, and for the younger set, many just discovering the melodies, harmonies and romantic lyrics of the Great American Song Book. The Jazz Studio (TJS) is a young people’s program and a standing committee of the Mobile Big Band Society. TJS faculty conduct the development, management and execution of an on-going Jazz music education program for intermediate level, aspiring Jazz artists throughout the greater Mobile area. In February of 2017, in conjunction with Dauphin Street Sound and API Audio, the Jake Peavy foundation was fortunate to host a dynamic roundtable of five industry veterans who spoke directly to the local community of aspiring musicians about the art and science of recording music.
